The policy, mandated at a state level, carries escalating consequences: a first offense results in the device being placed in a "yonder pouch" and retrieved by parents at the end of the day, while a third offense leads to suspension. These offenses, she noted, do not reset throughout the school year. MJ expressed significant frustration with the policy, particularly the inability to use personal headphones for academic purposes or during lunch. She highlighted the strictness of the enforcement, stating that teachers are required to stop class and call an assistant principal if a device is merely "out," regardless of whether it's being used.
