Behind the Scenes: '28 Years Later' Shot on iPhones, Actors React
In a recent interview, acclaimed actors Ralph Fiennes and Jodie Comer shed light on the unconventional filming techniques employed during the production of their upcoming movie, '28 Years Later'. The stars revealed that certain sequences were captured using iPhones, with as many as 20 devices utilized simultaneously.Jodie Comer shared her insights into the unique process, stating, "The biggest difference I noticed was speed. It felt like there was kind of less setup time in between takes. So I feel like things moved, could move quite quickly." She also emphasized the "real intimacy" achieved with the iPhones, noting their versatility: "sometimes the iPhones were tied to cables or like I think one was on the back of a sheep at one point."Ralph Fiennes lauded the film's director of photography, Anthony Dod Mantle, for his innovative approach. "His alertness to where to put the camera in all these kind of interesting places," Fiennes remarked, appreciating the dynamic nature of the shoot. The use of multiple cameras, often two or three at a time, added an element of unpredictability, which Fiennes found appealing. "You don't quite know sometimes, you think, 'oh, it must be that camera in front of me,' but it's not, it's the camera over there that they might use." This method appears to have fostered a creative and adaptable environment on set, allowing for greater freedom in capturing scenes.
