London, UK - Pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter is facing scrutiny over the promotional material for her latest album, 'Man's Best Friend,' after a TikTok video by creator Thomas Pearson highlighted the use of what appears to be AI-generated art. The controversy centers on TikTok promo stickers featuring animated characters that exhibit common AI art flaws, such as distorted hands and merged facial features. Pearson, in his viral video, expressed strong disapproval of the decision, stating, "Using AI to promote the album definitely does [suck]." He argued that a major pop star, backed by a top-tier creative team, choosing AI over human illustrators is a "slap in the face" to the artistic community. "It says 'we'd rather use scraped, soulless content trained on stolen work than pay a real artist to make something human,'" Pearson asserted. While many comments on Pearson's video suggested that TikTok, not Carpenter or her team, was responsible for the stickers, Pearson countered by referencing Carpenter's previous statements about having "almost complete control over her brand and creative choices" since joining Island Records. This, he noted, leaves two options: either she approved it unknowingly, or her claim of creative control is part of a brand narrative. "It's a warning sign of things to come, a reflection of where the industry is heading if nobody speaks up about it," Pearson concluded, emphasizing the importance of supporting real artists. The debate underscores growing concerns within the creative industries regarding the ethical implications and artistic integrity of using AI-generated content.
