Brazil's Football Confederation Elects New President: Samir Xaud's Plans for Reform Brazil's football landscape has shifted with the election of Samir Xaud as the new president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). Xaud secured his victory on May 25th, 2025, in a general assembly marked by the absence of twenty clubs who had previously voiced their dissent. His election wasn't contested, as his was the only slate submitted. Alongside Xaud, eight vice-presidents were elected to complete the new leadership team. Xaud's vision for the CBF involves a comprehensive overhaul. In his post-election address, he highlighted key priorities: "We must rebuild the image and credibility of the CBF," he stated. His plans include addressing refereeing inconsistencies, implementing financial fair play measures, and streamlining the national football calendar. He aims to reduce the number of state championship dates to eleven, beginning in 2026. This ambitious plan is intended to improve the organization and reduce scheduling conflicts. The new leadership will also oversee the transition to Carlo Ancelotti as the new coach of the Brazilian national team. Ancelotti's appointment will be formally announced on May 26th. Xaud emphasized Ancelotti and his technical team will have complete autonomy. "We will shield the football environment so the national team can focus exclusively on regaining its prestige and strengthening its relationship with Brazilian fans," Xaud assured. The return of a classic green and yellow jersey is also planned. The election of Samir Xaud marks a pivotal moment for Brazilian football. His ambitious plans, coupled with the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti, suggest a new era of reform and renewed focus on the national team.
