Mom captures happy family moment—not knowing hours later life would change
Tracey Gairns Brioux told Newsweek it was like "an out-of-body experience"; she watched it all unfold but was totally powerless.
A Canadian family experienced a sudden and life-altering medical emergency when the father suffered a subarachnoid brain bleed, a form of stroke, shortly after recovering from the COVID-19 virus. The incident occurred on March 10, 2022, just hours after the family had been enjoying an outdoor activity, feeling "almost back to normal" after all six family members had been ill with the virus. Tracey Gairns Brioux, the author of the video, shared the personal story to raise awareness about the potential severe complications of COVID-19. According to Ms. Brioux, when asked why this happened to her young, healthy, and active husband, doctors stated that those very factors contributed to his survival. The family describes the event as the beginning of "a very long road." The video, which includes clips of the father and children outdoors before the incident and a family selfie afterward, aims to connect with others who have been impacted by similar unforeseen health challenges post-COVID. "It feels very personal to share a piece of that day," Ms. Brioux stated, "but too many people have been impacted and feel isolated and alone." The family hopes their experience will contribute to greater public awareness regarding the virus's potential long-term effects.
