Local Turtle Hospital Releases Rehabilitated Sea Turtle Back into Ocean
The Turtle Hospital in the Florida Keys recently released a juvenile green sea turtle named Toaster back into the ocean. The release was livestreamed, providing viewers with a detailed look at the pre-release process. The staff carefully weighed, measured, and tagged Toaster, adhering to strict state and federal regulations. One staff member stated, "When sea turtles are a certain size, they get a pit tag, similar to what some people get for their pets." The video also highlights the hospital's work rehabilitating sea turtles affected by cold-stunning events, with 56 turtles transferred this past winter, some from as far as New England. The successful release of Toaster symbolizes the ongoing efforts to protect and conserve these endangered creatures.
