Moldova Sanatorium Scandal: Director and Deputy Arrested in Corruption Probe
Moldovan Sanatorium Officials Detained Amidst Corruption Probe Chisinau, Moldova – In a significant development, the National Anticorruption Center (CNA) of Moldova has detained the director and deputy director of the Speranta sanatorium in a wide-ranging corruption investigation. The CNA conducted over 50 searches across the country, uncovering evidence of embezzlement, abuse of power, and influence peddling. The investigation alleges that the sanatorium's leadership systematically misappropriated funds, ranging from 10,000 to 40,000 Moldovan lei, through fraudulent public procurement practices. The CNA has also obtained audio recordings that corroborate these allegations. "The individuals are being investigated in several cases of passive corruption, abuse of power, and embezzlement," stated a CNA spokesperson. The report highlights the lack of a public statement or reaction from the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, under which the sanatorium operates. This case underscores the ongoing challenges Moldova faces in tackling corruption within its public institutions.
