Moldova Corruption: Ministers Silent Amidst Damning Survey
Moldovan Ministers Evade Questions on Corruption Amidst Widespread Public Concern A recent survey commissioned by the Center for Legal Resources of Moldova has revealed widespread concern about government corruption. The study, conducted by Magenta Consulting, found that 54% of lawyers, 46% of prosecutors, and 38% of judges believe the current government and parliament are deeply corrupt. This represents a significant increase from 2020 when only 28% of judges held such a view. When confronted with these findings, several Moldovan ministers declined to comment, further fueling public distrust. "I am not a prosecutor, I did not participate in this research," stated Alla Nemerenko, Minister of Health, in response to questions about the survey. Another minister, Ludmila Catlabuga, Minister of Agriculture, simply refused to stop and answer questions. Their evasiveness only underscores the gravity of the situation and the need for greater transparency and accountability within the government. The high percentage of legal professionals expressing concern about corruption highlights the severity of the issue and its potential impact on the rule of law in Moldova. The government's response, or lack thereof, raises further questions about their commitment to tackling this critical problem.
