Ukraine's Busy Day: SBU Success, New Laws, and Poland's Election
Ukraine Today: SBU Operation, New Fines, and International Support June 2nd, 2025 marked a day of significant developments in Ukraine. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced a successful special operation, codenamed "Pavutina" ("Spiderweb"), targeting 41 strategic aircraft in Russian territory. The operation, planned for over a year and a half, resulted in the neutralization of a third of the enemy's strategic air assets, estimated at approximately $7 billion. Meanwhile, new limits on bank card transfers have been implemented, impacting clients deemed low and medium risk. These limits have been lowered to 100,000 hryvnias per month, while high-risk clients face a 50,000 hryvnia limit. Additionally, a bill is under consideration to grant additional leave to soldiers serving in combat zones, ranging from 10 to 40 days annually, depending on service duration. This initiative aims to support the well-being of these soldiers. Adding to the day's events, Poland announced the official results of its presidential elections. Karol Navrotsky emerged victorious, securing nearly 51% of the vote. His opponent, Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski, received 49.1%, with a voter turnout exceeding 70%, potentially the highest in 30 years. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Navrotsky, expressing hope for continued strong relations between the two countries. These events underscore the ongoing complexities and challenges facing Ukraine, while also highlighting moments of progress and international cooperation.
