Sarawak Premier's UK, France, and UAE Trip Yields Significant International Collaborations Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg recently concluded a working visit to the United Kingdom, France, and the United Arab Emirates, resulting in several key agreements and MOUs. The trip focused on strengthening Sarawak's global partnerships and exploring opportunities in various sectors. In Wales, the Premier witnessed the signing of an agreement between SMD Semiconductor and Compound Semiconductor Applications (CSA) Catapult, highlighting UK-Sarawak ties. "This is a technological breakthrough," stated one participant, referring to the unveiling of a power inverter prototype. The collaboration is expected to drive innovation in Sarawak's semiconductor industry. In London, agreements were signed with Cambridge University Press & Assessment and Swinburne Innovation Malaysia (SWIM), focusing on improving bilingual assessment for Sarawak students. The Premier emphasized the importance of aligning with international standards, stating, "What is important here is that we have dual languages that are our national language, based on our national syllabus and English as another assessment based on the international syllabus prepared by Cambridge." Meetings with the Global Solar Council (GSC) and Green Hydrogen Organization (GHO) demonstrated Sarawak's commitment to expanding its renewable energy agenda. The Premier also met with the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) to discuss addressing global challenges such as climate change and sustainability. In Abu Dhabi, an MOU was signed between Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) and Abu Dhabi Ports Group, fostering long-term strategic collaboration in port infrastructure. This partnership is expected to enhance Sarawak's port connectivity and open new pathways to global markets. The Premier's visit underscores Sarawak's commitment to global collaborations and its strategic vision for sustainable development and economic growth.
