Ukraine's Harvest in Jeopardy: June Weather Holds the Key
Ukraine's June Harvest Hangs in the Balance as Farmers Await Crucial Weather. Farmers in Ukraine are anxiously awaiting the arrival of June, hoping for improved weather conditions after a cold and unstable May. According to Tetiana Adamienko, Head of the Agrometeorology Department at Ukrhydrometcenter, there's a chance to salvage part of the harvest if sufficient rain falls. 'Farmers had a chance to partially save the harvest by replanting crops by May 20-25,' Adamienko stated. Currently, rain is falling across Ukraine, offering some hope. However, Adamienko warns that if June brings excessive heat and a lack of rain, crop losses could reach 3-5%. The end of May is expected to bring a sustained rise in temperatures to summer levels, making the first half of June crucial. The impact on fruit prices is already being felt, with farmers anticipating price increases of at least 30% due to May's unpredictable weather.
