Expert dismantles misleading claim about extreme weather: 'Not natural'
UN Climate Change posted a TikTok to debunk a common claim about extreme climate events.
GENEVA – The United Nations Climate Change organization recently released a video highlighting the accelerated pace of global climate shifts. Addressing the common assertion that "the climate has always changed," the UN Climate Change representative clarified that while natural climate variations have occurred throughout Earth's history, these changes typically unfold over thousands to millions of years. "True, but it is changing faster and we are the cause," the representative stated, emphasizing that current changes are transpiring over mere decades. The video presented several scientific charts and maps, including data on temperature changes over the past 50 years and global average temperature trends, to underscore the unprecedented nature of these shifts. The organization urged for collective action, stating, "These records are not normal and we need collective action," to mitigate the impact on human safety and well-being.
