Bolivia Election: Morales Banned, Rodriguez Cleared by Tribunal
Bolivia's Constitutional Tribunal bars Evo Morales, clears Andronico Rodriguez in key election ruling. La Paz, Bolivia – In a significant development impacting Bolivia's upcoming elections, the Constitutional Tribunal of Plurinational Bolivia (TCP) has issued a decision that allows the candidacy of Andronico Rodriguez while simultaneously barring Evo Morales from participating. The TCP's ruling, made public on June 5th, 2025, stems from a review of three constitutional autos. Two of these autos favored the Movimiento Tercer Sistema (MTS), paving the way for Rodriguez's candidacy. However, a ruling against the Movimiento Al Socialismo (MAS) party effectively prevents Morales from running. This decision follows a previous ruling by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal that stripped MAS of its legal standing. "This decision ensures certainty, avoids delays, and provides all conditions for the electoral body to proceed with the national elections on August 17th," stated a TCP magistrate. The ruling has been met with mixed reactions, highlighting the deep political divisions within the country. The clarity of the TCP's decision, however, is expected to contribute to a more streamlined electoral process.
