Chicken Prices Drop in Cochabamba as Supply Normalizes
Cochabamba, Bolivia – The supply of chicken in Cochabamba markets is gradually normalizing, with prices experiencing a notable decrease. According to reports from market vendors, chicken from Santa Cruz has begun arriving, leading to a stabilization of the supply chain following previous transport disruptions. Currently, the price of chicken per kilogram ranges between 23 and 24 Bolivianos. Vendors confirm that sales have increased due to the improved availability and lower prices. However, a consequence of the recent blockades is the prevalence of larger chickens in the market. One vendor stated, "The chicken has gone down. The chicken is now 2.5 to 3 kilos, it's cheap. The kilo is 24, 23." She added, "Compared to other days, it's almost 10 pesos less." Another vendor noted, "A lot of big chicken has arrived from Santa Cruz. The big one is on offer at 23 with small cuts, 24 without small cuts. Pure 3-kilo, 2.5-kilo ones. Pure big ones have arrived." She further explained, "Small chicken has arrived very little, we have more big ones." Markets are showing increased activity as the supply of essential food items, including chicken, becomes more regular.
