La Paz, Bolivia – A recent global report by the World Justice Project (WJP) has identified Bolivia as the most corrupt country in Latin America and the second most corrupt worldwide. The study, which assesses the extent to which governments are free from corruption, ranked Bolivia 141st out of 142 evaluated nations, with only Congo receiving a lower score.
The WJP's methodology evaluates whether public officials, including politicians, judges, police, and military personnel, use their positions for personal gain. According to the report, Bolivia scored 0.23 points, the same as Haiti and Cambodia.
The judicial system was highlighted as the area with the most significant corruption in Bolivia, placing it near the bottom globally. Following the judiciary, the report indicated high levels of corruption within the police, army, executive, and legislative branches. The WJP report concludes that corruption is generalized across all levels of the Bolivian state.
