Santa Cruz, Bolivia – The Santa Cruz Departmental Health Service (SEDES) has formally requested the Ministry of Education to advance the upcoming school holidays. This measure comes in response to a recent increase in measles cases within the region, aiming to prevent further transmission among the student population. Jaime Bilbao, Director of SEDES, confirmed the request, stating, "We are seeking to advance the holidays by at least one week to prevent the spread of the disease." He assured the public that there are sufficient vaccine doses available to address the current situation. Bilbao also clarified that among the 43 reported measles cases, the majority are individuals between 20 and 22 years old, as well as children under the age of five, with very few cases identified among school-aged children. The official request will be submitted to both the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health for approval.
