La Paz, Bolivia – The National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (Senamhi) has clarified that the recent San Juan night was not the coldest of the year, as many believed. Temperatures during the early hours of San Juan dropped to -9 degrees Celsius in El Alto and -2 degrees Celsius in La Paz. However, Senamhi warns that the worst of winter is yet to come. According to a representative, temperatures are expected to drop further, with declines ranging from 6 to 12 degrees Celsius, accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of 40 to 70 kilometers per hour. These conditions are anticipated to affect multiple departments across Bolivia, including Oruro, Tarija, La Paz, Potosí, Cochabamba, Chuquisaca, Santa Cruz, Beni, and Pando. The coldest period of the winter is projected to occur towards the end of July. Senamhi has issued two alert advisories to inform the public about the impending severe weather. Citizens are advised to reinforce their defenses and dress warmly.
