Car Thief Crashes Stolen Vehicle Into Two Homes in Santa Cruz, Bolivia

SANTA CRUZ, BOLIVIA – A car theft attempt escalated into a destructive incident in Santa Cruz when the suspect, reportedly under the influence of a substance, crashed the stolen vehicle into two residential properties during his escape. The incident, which occurred recently, resulted in significant material damage to the homes. According to reports from UNITEL BOLIVIA, the thief was apprehended by alert neighbors after the collision. One resident, who witnessed the event, stated, “They came to my house to steal the car, and when they tried to get it out, because the man was drugged, he hit the wall there and then came to this side of the street.” She added that she was about to leave when she saw the car accelerate and crash into the wall. The affected homeowners expressed their dismay over the extensive damage. “The damage is great, both to the vehicle and to the construction,” said one property owner, lamenting, “We don’t know who will compensate us for all this damage and prejudice.” He confirmed that the car crashed into two homes, one at his location and another nearby. Residents also voiced concerns about the delayed police response. The witness noted, “The truth is, yes, because we called and they took about an hour. An hour and a bit the police took.” She also believes the apprehended individual was not acting alone. “He would have escaped,” she said, referring to the suspect, “Thank God there was a man there and the young man caught him.” Authorities have confirmed the formal complaint has been filed and an investigation is underway.
