Police in El Alto Arrest Duo for Counterfeit Money Scam
El Alto, Bolivia - Police in El Alto have successfully apprehended two individuals suspected of operating a sophisticated counterfeiting scam, commonly known as the "uncle's trick." The arrests were announced by a police spokesperson, who detailed the deceptive tactics used by the fraudsters. According to authorities, the suspects would approach unsuspecting victims, feigning to have discovered a significant amount of money on the street. They would then convince the victims that the found currency was of unknown origin and propose an exchange for the victim's genuine money or valuable possessions, effectively swapping counterfeit bills for real assets. During the operation, approximately 10,000 Bolivianos in counterfeit currency were recovered. The seized fake banknotes included various denominations, such as 200, 100, 50, and 20 Bolivianos, indicating a widespread attempt to defraud the public. Authorities urge citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to prevent falling victim to such schemes.
