ZAPORIZHZHIA, UKRAINE – A massive locust invasion has been reported in the Zaporizhzhia region, with concerns growing for the neighboring Dnipropetrovsk region. Footage circulating online shows vast numbers of these insects covering roads, fences, and walls, indicating a widespread infestation. According to local reports, the density of the locusts in affected areas of Dnipropetrovsk region is estimated at approximately 50 insects per square meter. Experts suggest that the emergence of these pests could be linked to the dried-up Kakhovka reservoir, providing favorable conditions for their breeding. Migratory locusts are known for their ability to form large swarms, posing a significant threat to agricultural lands. Farmers in the affected regions are now on high alert, as the swarms are capable of rapidly destroying grain crops, potentially leading to substantial economic losses. Authorities are monitoring the situation and assessing measures to mitigate the impact of the invasion.
