Unrealized Dreams: The Canceled Sequels That Haunt Gamers A recent report by gaming media outlet Vandal has shed light on three highly anticipated video game sequels that were ultimately canceled, leaving fans to wonder what could have been. The report details the unmade follow-ups to 'Batman: Arkham Knight,' 'Sleeping Dogs,' and 'Days Gone,' providing insights into their concepts and the reasons for their demise. According to Vandal, a direct sequel to 'Batman: Arkham Knight' was planned, set ten years after the original and featuring Damian Wayne as the protagonist. This ambitious project envisioned an enormous, almost apocalyptic Gotham City that players could traverse on a motorcycle, encountering new versions of iconic villains. However, the sequel was reportedly canceled, with some of its concepts being repurposed for 'Gotham Knights' and 'Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.' The beloved open-world action game 'Sleeping Dogs' was also slated for a direct and ambitious continuation. This sequel would have expanded on the story of protagonist Wei Shen, introducing a corrupt partner who would also be playable. The game was even planned to feature cooperative missions and an open world. Unfortunately, the project was shelved, and its developers were reassigned to a multiplayer 'Sleeping Dogs' title called 'Triad Wars,' which itself was canceled before Square Enix closed the studio. Finally, 'Days Gone,' initially conceived as a trilogy, never even received a second installment. Despite the Bend Studio team reportedly working on a sequel for several weeks, including a map that would have expanded the game world, the project was canceled. The video cites the game's director, who attributed the cancellation to the original game's "poor sales and lukewarm critical reception." These revelations underscore the often-unseen challenges in game development and the many promising projects that never see the light of day, much to the disappointment of their dedicated fan bases.
