Spanish Monarchy Approval Ratings: A Generational Divide?
The Spanish Monarchy's Image: A 2025 Report Spain's monarchy continues to enjoy significant public support, according to a new report released by Vanitatis in collaboration with IMOP Insights. The "Bourbon Report 2025" reveals a 43.7% approval rating for King Felipe VI's performance as head of state, with only 21.1% disapproving. However, the report also points to a notable generational divide, with indifference towards the monarchy growing among younger Spaniards (under 35). "The monarchy is strong in Spain, but it needs to connect with younger generations," explains Nacho GayGal, director of Vanitatis, in a video presentation of the report's findings. The report also reveals significant regional disparities in approval ratings, with Andalusia showing the highest level of support and Catalonia the lowest. Queen Letizia's image, however, continues to rise in popularity. The report shows a steady increase in her approval rating over the past five years, reaching an all-time high of 6.0 out of 10 in 2025. This represents a 1.2-point increase since 2019, underscoring her positive impact on the monarchy's public image. The report suggests that the monarchy's increasingly "feminine" image is a key factor in its ongoing success. The Bourbon Report 2025 offers valuable insights into the evolving relationship between the Spanish people and their monarchy. While overall support remains strong, the need to engage younger demographics remains a critical challenge for the institution.
