Practical Guide: Where to Leave Offerings at Ostrog Monastery

Ostrog Monastery, Montenegro – Visitors to the revered Ostrog Monastery in Montenegro are often curious about the appropriate way to leave voluntary offerings. Aleksandar Đurđević, a theologian, recently provided practical guidance on this tradition, clarifying the process for pilgrims. According to Đurđević, offerings such as cooking oil, coffee, flour, salt, wool socks, or sweets should be placed in designated baskets located at the entrance area. These baskets are strategically positioned on the left side, before visitors begin their ascent up the stairs leading to the Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This church is the sacred resting place of the relics of Saint Basil of Ostrog. "The reason these baskets are located right at the beginning is so that you don't have to carry your offerings, bags full of oil, sugar, and all other gifts, while waiting in line as you go towards Saint Basil," Đurđević explained. This system ensures a smoother and more convenient experience for the many pilgrims who visit the monastery daily.
