Mastering Homemade Gyros: A Simple Oven Recipe for Authentic Greek Flavors
Belgrade, Serbia – A local food content creator, known as vidra_foodie, has shared an innovative recipe for preparing restaurant-quality gyros at home. The video, which has garnered significant attention, demonstrates how to achieve the authentic taste of Greek gyros using a conventional oven and a vertical skewer. The recipe features boneless chicken thighs marinated in a rich blend of Greek yogurt, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, thyme, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. The marinated chicken is then carefully stacked onto a vertical skewer, allowing for even cooking and a crispy exterior, much like traditional rotisserie gyros. The dish is baked at 200°C for approximately 90 minutes, with the chef recommending occasional basting with the accumulated pan juices to ensure succulence. Upon completion, the perfectly cooked gyros meat is thinly sliced and suggested to be served in pita bread, accompanied by classic tzatziki sauce, fresh tomatoes, red onions, and french fries. This method offers a convenient way for home cooks to recreate a beloved Greek delicacy without specialized equipment, bringing the flavors of the Mediterranean directly to their kitchens.
