DIY Vinyl Storage Solution Transforms Record Collections for Under $10 A recent viral video by content creator 'Vinyl Playground' has offered a simple yet highly effective solution for vinyl record enthusiasts struggling with disorganized shelves. The DIY project, which costs less than $10, demonstrates how to create custom back spacers for record storage units, preventing records from sliding to the back and ensuring a neat, uniform display. The creator, known for their music and tech content, outlined the straightforward process. "My record room is in absolute disarray. There's literally records everywhere," the creator stated, highlighting a common issue among collectors. The solution involves purchasing thin wooden boards from a local hardware store, such as Home Depot, and having them cut to the appropriate length to fit standard cube shelving units. Double-sided Gorilla tape is then applied to secure the wooden strips at the back of each shelf cube. "This size of board was ideal because the tape fit to a T. And it has enough thickness where it won't damage my records when they're pressed against it," the creator explained, emphasizing the careful consideration given to the materials. The video showcases the transformation from a cluttered collection to a perfectly organized display, with records uniformly aligned at the front of the shelves. The creator noted the project cost less than $10 for 18 back spacers and took approximately an hour to complete. This budget-friendly and practical hack has resonated with many in the vinyl community, offering an accessible alternative to more expensive commercial solutions.
