Greta Thunberg Detained, Deported After Attempted Gaza Aid Delivery
Greta Thunberg and a group of activists aboard the Madleen Aid ship were intercepted and detained by Israeli forces on Monday morning while attempting to deliver aid to Gaza, breaking the country's blockade. The activists were accused of illegally entering Israeli waters. Following their detention, Thunberg was deported and arrived in Paris before returning to Sweden. In a statement given to reporters upon arrival, Thunberg said, "On international waters we were illegally attacked and kidnapped by Israel and taken against our will." The Israeli Foreign Ministry stated that those on board the Madleen, described as a self-propelled yacht, were taken to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv to depart from Israel and return to their home countries. Those who did not sign deportation documents were detained and brought before a judicial authority. The incident highlights the ongoing conflict and tensions surrounding the Gaza blockade.
