In a recent viral video, an active-duty Army member, Vivian Bobe, demonstrated an ingenious packing technique known as the "ranger roll," designed to maximize space and efficiency for military personnel on deployment or in the field. The video showcases how to tightly fold and roll military-issue camouflage pants, t-shirts, and even underwear into compact, self-contained bundles. Bobe illustrates the process by first folding the pants lengthwise, then rolling them tightly from the waist down, finally tucking the rolled fabric into one of the pant's own pockets to secure the bundle. A similar method is applied to shirts and underwear, resulting in small, uniform packages. "By ranger rolling my pants like this, I'm able to create more space by using the little pocket it has at the top," Bobe explained in the video. The technique, while seemingly "extra" to some, is presented as a highly effective way to fit more essentials into limited duffle bag space. The video concludes with a display of various clothing items, expertly ranger-rolled and organized into labeled Ziploc bags, such as "Tan/PT Shirts" and "Boxers," highlighting the systematic approach to military packing. This method could prove valuable not only for service members but also for any traveler looking to optimize luggage space.
