In a poignant video shared online, Abbi Johnson, an advocate for identity preservation, delivered a heartfelt message to her son, whom she placed for adoption at the age of 17. Johnson expressed her enduring love and longing, stating her belief that her son is entitled to his full identity and the truth of their shared history. "I've always wanted you to know my love and my longing for you, and to be able to share my truth and why I really lost you, and what these past 14 years have really felt like from my point of view," Johnson stated in the emotional recording. She emphasized her desire for him to access this information without having to navigate her emotions or perform emotional labor. To ensure this accessibility, Johnson has recorded her complete story in a four-part series uploaded to YouTube, with a direct link available on her profile. She explained that the purpose is to provide her son with easy access to his identifying information "without having to do any emotional labor, without having to ask, without having to navigate anybody's emotions." Johnson also expressed hope that her vulnerability might offer educational insights or comfort to others who have experienced similar circumstances.
