A recent incident involving a DoorDash delivery driver has sparked online discussion regarding customer expectations and appropriate attire for gig economy workers. Kendra B, a DoorDash driver, shared her experience after a customer questioned her clothing choice during a delivery. According to Ms. B, the customer had included a note in the delivery instructions stating, "Do not park in my driveway," which Ms. B respected by parking on the street. Upon arriving at the customer's porch, Ms. B attempted to hand over the food, but the customer instead scrutinized her appearance. The customer reportedly asked, "Do they not make you wear some type of uniform whenever you're working?" and then added, "I just feel uncomfortable with you handling my food showing so much skin." Ms. B, who was wearing a light blue t-shirt and dark shorts, expressed her confusion and stated that it was 110 degrees Fahrenheit outside, and she felt her attire was "very appropriately" dressed for the weather. She informed the customer that DoorDash allows drivers to wear whatever they want and do not require uniforms. After this exchange, the customer finally took the food and walked away without further comment. The incident has led to a debate among viewers about customer behavior and the boundaries of personal appearance in service roles.
