Lorna Luxe Reveals How Workplace Pressure Led to Severe Eating Disorder
Influencer Lorna Luxe has opened up about her severe struggle with an eating disorder, attributing its onset to the intense pressure she felt to maintain a 'skinny' appearance during her time as cabin crew for Virgin Atlantic. In a recent interview on the 'We Need To Talk' podcast, Luxe detailed how her perception of success became inextricably linked to her weight. "In my head, success meant being skinny," she stated, explaining that the skinnier she became, the more she felt she had "found the secret sauce." Luxe recounted how working on flights, particularly night flights from destinations like Orlando, often left her with access to leftover meals. Initially, this led to weight gain, which she then sought to counteract through unhealthy means. "I knew that I had to be a virgin girl and slim and whatnot. So I thought, oh, I can just eat and then I'll chuck it up later," Luxe revealed, describing the development of bulimic tendencies. This struggle profoundly impacted her life, even influencing her travel choices. "My trips, my destinations were changing because I was selecting rather than going to Shanghai and going shopping, I'd rather go to New York for one night and stay in the Holiday Inn where I could use the gym," she explained, highlighting her efforts to conceal her eating habits. The turning point came when her condition became too severe to ignore. "I was so poorly and I just couldn't see the wood for the trees," Luxe confessed. She ultimately confided in her manager at Virgin, a decision that marked the end of her flying career. Her candid account sheds light on the often-hidden pressures within certain industries and the devastating consequences of body image ideals.
