Eid-ul-Azha 2025: Sacrificial Animal Prices Soar in Pakistan Due to Disease Outbreak
Eid-ul-Azha 2025: Sacrificial Animal Prices Soar in Pakistan Pakistan is bracing for Eid-ul-Azha, but this year's festivities come with a significant price increase for sacrificial animals. Reports indicate a 20-30% jump in prices compared to last year, impacting many families' preparations. The primary cause is attributed to a recent outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, which has reduced the number of healthy animals available for sale. "This year, the prices are significantly higher than last year," says a livestock farmer interviewed in the video. "The foot-and-mouth disease has affected many animals, and those remaining are more expensive." For instance, a suitable goat that yielded approximately 25kg of meat cost between 50,000 and 60,000 Pakistani Rupees last year. This year, the price for a similar goat is estimated to be between 60,000 and 70,000 Rupees. Similarly, prices for bulls have also increased dramatically, with a three-man (approximately 150kg) bull costing between 180,000 and 200,000 Rupees last year. This year, the prices are expected to reach as high as 250,000 Rupees. Despite the challenges, the spirit of Eid-ul-Azha remains strong. Many families are still making preparations, adapting to the increased costs, and focusing on the religious significance of the holiday. The government is also taking measures to address the disease outbreak and stabilize prices.
