Pakistan Issues Urgent Solar Panel Safety Guidelines After Storm Damage
PDMA Issues Urgent Safety Guidelines for Solar Panel Installations in Pakistan Amidst rising concerns over storm damage to homes with solar panels, the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has released crucial safety guidelines for installers and homeowners. The PDMA's director-general, Irfan Ali Khattak, stressed the importance of these guidelines, stating, "We need to ensure that solar panels are installed correctly to prevent accidents during high winds." The guidelines emphasize conducting thorough load-bearing tests before installation to assess roof strength. This crucial step helps prevent panels from falling during storms. The cost of these tests, according to the PDMA, ranges from 80,000 to 150,000 rupees for smaller systems. Homeowners are also advised to use high-quality materials that can withstand wind speeds of 120-150 kilometers per hour. Failure to comply with these standards could lead to significant damage and potential injury. The PDMA has already sent these guidelines to relevant departments across the province, and work has commenced on implementing the new regulations. This proactive approach aims to protect lives and property, ensuring the safe and efficient use of solar energy in Pakistan.
