Teen Dies After Dine-and-Dash Turns Deadly: Bodycam Footage Reveals Tragic Sequence of Events
East Hartford Teen Dies After Dine-and-Dash Incident Turns Deadly A tragic incident in East Hartford, Connecticut, has claimed the life of 17-year-old Jakai Perry. The incident began as a seemingly minor dine-and-dash at the Triple-A Diner on Main Street. However, the situation escalated when police officers attempted to detain Perry. Bodycam footage released by authorities shows officers attempting to de-escalate the situation, offering to allow Perry to return to the diner and pay the $140 bill without facing charges. "Keep your hands behind your back. You keep doing this thing where you’re digging in your pockets. I don’t know if you have anything in your pockets," one officer is heard saying. This request, however, made Perry uncomfortable, causing him to flee the scene. An officer gave chase, but lost sight of Perry. Shortly thereafter, gunshots were heard. "I heard a gunshot! Shots fired! Shots fired!" the officer yelled. "There’s a shot fired. I think he shot himself in his leg." Police later confirmed that Perry had shot himself in the leg and died during surgery. Dean Jones, Perry's basketball coach, spoke to reporters, sharing his memories of the young man. "He had a good spirit with him. That's how I remember him, that's how we're going to carry his legacy on." Jones also mentioned the devastating impact of the event on Perry's mother and the team. The incident is currently under investigation, and Perry's funeral is scheduled for Saturday. The case serves as a stark reminder of the delicate nature of police interactions and the tragic consequences of impulsive decisions.
