Washington D.C. – The White House, in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), has released a new public awareness video employing an unconventional approach to highlight law enforcement efforts. The video, shared across social media platforms, utilizes the iconic theme song and visual elements from the popular Pokémon franchise, including animated sequences and stylized 'Pokémon cards,' to depict the apprehension of alleged criminals. The footage showcases various law enforcement operations, including tactical raids and arrests conducted by officers from DHS, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and U.S. Border Patrol. Individuals are shown being handcuffed and taken into custody, with their faces blurred to protect their identities prior to conviction. At the video's conclusion, two 'Pokémon cards' are displayed, detailing the arrests of Hossein Sharifi and Nery Garcia Linares. Sharifi, a 67-year-old from Iran, was reportedly arrested by ICE Atlanta on September 5 for child molestation, with a criminal history including statutory rape, aggravated child molestation, trafficking for labor servitude, and marijuana possession. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Linares, a 32-year-old from Guatemala, was arrested by ICE Newark on September 18, convicted of child endangerment and sentenced to three years in prison. “This campaign underscores our commitment to public safety and bringing those who exploit the vulnerable to justice,” stated a representative from the Department of Homeland Security. The use of the 'Gotta catch ‘em all' slogan aims to resonate with a broad audience while emphasizing the agencies' dedication to apprehending individuals involved in serious crimes. The video's unique style has garnered significant attention, sparking discussions across various online communities.
