USDA Employee and Businessman Indicted in $66 Million Food Stamp Fraud
A massive $66 million food stamp fraud scandal has rocked the United States. Arlasa Davis, a 56-year-old USDA employee from New York, and Michael Kehoe, a 46-year-old Long Island businessman, are at the center of the scheme. Davis, who oversaw the USDA division responsible for preventing SNAP and EBT fraud, is accused of taking cash bribes starting in 2022. These bribes allegedly secured hundreds of misappropriated Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) numbers, allowing unauthorized stores to accept EBT and SNAP payments. Kehoe, described as the ringleader, is accused of deploying 160 illegal EBT terminals across New York, facilitating over $30 million in fraudulent transactions. "This scandal hits hard as federal cuts to USDA programs threaten school lunches and local farms," said one concerned citizen. The indictment includes four additional co-conspirators. The case underscores the need for stronger safeguards against fraud in government assistance programs.
