Sabah's Tangkarason Faces Decades-Long Water Crisis; Government Promises Action
Tangkarason Water Crisis: Decades of Waiting, Hope for a Solution Residents of Tangkarason, Sabah, have endured a prolonged water shortage for decades. Their plight is highlighted in a recent Astro AWANI Borneo report, which reveals the challenges faced by over 3,000 people relying on polluted river water. The state government, however, assures that plans are underway to resolve the issue. "The connection of the main pipe to Tangkarason through the Outer City Water Supply program is currently in the planning stages," stated Datuk James Ratib, Minister of Community Development and People's Welfare of Sabah. He also confirmed that efforts are underway to improve the current electricity supply, which also depends on generators. While the government's commitment is evident, residents remain hopeful that the promised improvements will materialize soon. Winnie Mogak, a small business owner in Tangkarason, expressed this sentiment, stating, "We hope this promise will be fulfilled, not just empty words." The video shows the harsh reality of the situation, with images of parched land and residents collecting water from polluted sources. The project, once completed, will benefit not only Tangkarason but also five other villages, a clinic, and two primary schools. The hope is that the central government will release the necessary funds to begin construction promptly.
