Sarawak Premier Acts on Sabah Student's Water Crisis Plea
Sarawak Premier Responds to UMS Student's Water Complaint KUCHING, SARAWAK – Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, has responded to an open letter written by a University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) student highlighting persistent water supply problems on campus. In a statement released on Tuesday, Abang Johari acknowledged the letter but emphasized that the issue falls outside the jurisdiction of the state government. He stated, "While I sympathize with the student's concerns, this matter is outside the scope of the Sarawak state government's responsibilities." Despite this, he committed to relaying the student's concerns to the Minister of Higher Education, Dato' Seri Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir, to seek a resolution. The open letter, penned by Muhammad Rasul Mizan, a student from Kuching, detailed the ongoing water crisis at UMS, expressing frustration over its prolonged impact on students' daily lives. The letter, dated May 23rd, described the significant disruptions caused by the water shortages. The Premier's response, while not offering immediate solutions, demonstrates a willingness to engage with the concerns of the student body and advocate for action at the federal level. This action shows a commitment to addressing student issues, even those beyond the state's direct control.
