RM2 Million Cigarette Smuggling Ring Busted in Malaysia
Authorities in Kedah, Malaysia, announced a major crackdown on cigarette smuggling, resulting in the seizure of over RM2 million worth of contraband. The operation, conducted by the PGA North Brigade, uncovered a large-scale syndicate that evaded taxes by transporting cigarettes from the southern to the northern regions of the country. "The raid was the culmination of a month-long investigation," said SAC Shahrom Hashim, Commander of the PGA North Brigade. "We also arrested a local man to help with our investigation." The investigation is ongoing under Section 135(1)(D) of the Customs Act 1967, which carries substantial fines or imprisonment for offenders. The successful operation highlights the ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities and underscores the importance of public cooperation in reporting suspicious behavior.
