
Massive Contraband Cigarette and Liquor Bust in Sarawak Nets RM6.33 Million
General Operations Force Seizes RM6.33 Million in Smuggled Goods in Sarawak KUCHING, SARAWAK – In a major blow to smuggling operations in Sarawak, Malaysia, the General Operations Force (PGA) successfully seized RM6.33 million worth of illicit cigarettes and liquor in three separate raids on Thursday. The raids, conducted in Kuching and Serian, resulted in the arrest of seven men, including one foreigner, aged between 27 and 46. Assistant Commissioner Rosti Ina, Deputy Commander of the PGA Brigade in Sarawak, stated, "The first raid, part of Operation Alpha, took place at a warehouse in Kuching." This raid alone uncovered 4,881 cartons of cigarettes and 7,595 liters of various brands of liquor. Two vans were also seized. The total value of the goods seized in this raid is estimated at RM4.03 million. Two further raids in Serian yielded an additional 2,103 cartons of cigarettes and over 3,000 liters of liquor, estimated at RM1.26 million. All suspects and confiscated goods were handed over to the Kuching and Serian District Police Headquarters for further investigation under the Customs Act 1967, Immigration Act, and Road Transport Act. This successful operation demonstrates the PGA's commitment to combating smuggling and protecting the Malaysian economy.
