Lighting Up Lives: SOLS & Yinson Empower Rural Communities in Malaysia
SOLS Foundation and Yinson Partner to Electrify and Empower Malaysian Indigenous Communities Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – June 3, 2025 – A groundbreaking partnership between SOLS Foundation and Yinson is bringing light and opportunity to remote Orang Asli and Orang Asal communities in Malaysia. The initiative, funded by Yinson's Y4Y grant, focuses on providing solar electrification, education, and future-ready skills training. "The Yinson for Youth grant aligns perfectly with our values," explains Daniela Strimbel, Executive Director of SOLS Foundation. "This sponsorship goes directly to Kampung Tompel, a community in Seri Jaya, Pahang, to electrify 50 homes." The program's impact is multifaceted. Improved lighting allows children to study longer, increasing school attendance. Reduced kerosene use enhances safety and health. Financial savings enable families to invest in other essential needs. Strimbel shares a powerful example: "One of our graduates, Irul, brought electricity to his village for the first time. This is a huge step forward." The program's success underscores the importance of community-led initiatives and the transformative power of access to basic resources. The long-term goal is to foster individual and community development, creating a brighter future for these deserving communities.
