Slow Livestock Sales Cast Shadow Over Indonesia's Eid al-Adha 2025
Indonesian Livestock Sales Slow Ahead of Eid al-Adha 2025 JAKARTA, Indonesia – Indonesian livestock traders are facing a challenging period as sales remain sluggish in the run-up to the upcoming Eid al-Adha celebrations in 2025. This downturn comes despite the market's previous recovery from the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak in 2022. Economic uncertainty and concerns about animal health are cited as the primary reasons for the slow sales. "For the past week, there have been very few buyers compared to previous years," said Kahar, a livestock trader from Pasar Ciawi, Purwakarta, West Java. He added that the economic situation and concerns about animal diseases have significantly impacted his sales. The report highlights that Indonesia's economic growth has been the slowest in three years, reaching only 4.87% compared to the previous year. This economic slowdown has affected consumer spending, particularly on non-essential items like livestock for the Eid al-Adha festival. While some traders report a 50% increase in sales compared to usual days, this is still significantly lower than previous years. The price of livestock has increased by approximately 25% due to the festive season, but this has not been enough to offset the overall decline in demand. Despite the challenges, the resilience of Indonesian livestock traders remains evident. Their determination to overcome these obstacles and continue providing for their communities is a testament to their strength and perseverance.
