743 Charges, Courtroom Fainting: Astro Data Breach Case Adjourned
A Malaysian court heard the case of Nora Idayu Jaafar, a 48-year-old former Astro employee, who was charged with 743 counts of unauthorized data system modification. The charges, brought under Section 5(1) of the Computer Crimes Act 1997, relate to alterations made to Astro's customer management system (M.Doc CRM). During the proceedings, Ms. Jaafar fainted after the 30th charge was read. "The accused was unable to continue the proceedings after the 30th charge was read," said Judge Nurma Ismail. The judge adjourned the case until June 26th to allow Ms. Jaafar to receive medical attention and rest. Bail was set at 10,000 ringgit. This case highlights the growing concern over data security and the potential consequences of unauthorized access and modification of sensitive information. The large number of charges underscores the severity of the alleged offenses.
