
Defendant faints in court facing 743 data breach charges
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - In a dramatic turn of events at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court, a former commercial support staff member of a pay TV station fainted in the dock yesterday. Nor Idaayu Jaafar, the accused, was in the midst of hearing the 30th of 743 charges against her, when she collapsed. The charges accuse her of illegally altering company data, specifically changing customer accounts to corporate accounts without authorization. "The accused faces a maximum fine of RM100,000 or seven years in prison, or both," said Deputy Public Prosecutor Rohhaiza Abdul Rahman. The judge, Norma Ismail, granted bail of RM10,000, with additional conditions including reporting to a nearby police station and surrendering her passport. The remaining 713 charges will be addressed in court on June 26th. The incident highlights the gravity of data breaches and the legal consequences that follow.
