Eight UMT Students Plead Not Guilty to Assault Charges

Eight Universiti Malaysia Terengganu students appeared before a Kuala Terengganu Magistrate's Court today, pleading not guilty to charges of causing injury to a fellow student. The incident, which allegedly occurred at the university's college in Kuala Nerus on December 15, 2024, involved eight defendants aged between 21 and 23. They were charged under Section 325 of the Penal Code, read with Section 34, which carries a potential sentence of up to seven years imprisonment and a fine. The court granted bail of RM5,000 to each defendant, with the next hearing scheduled for July 6th. A representative from the court stated, "The defendants have been released on bail pending further investigation and submission of documents."
