Malaysia Extends Subsidized LPG Access for Small Businesses
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Micro and small food and beverage businesses in Malaysia received a reprieve on June 5th, 2025, when the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living announced a temporary exemption from the scheduled controlled goods permit (PBKB) requirement for subsidized liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). This decision, announced by Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, will allow these businesses to continue utilizing subsidized LPG until further notice. "No legal action will be taken against small and micro businesses using subsidized LPG cylinders," stated Datuk Armizan in a press conference. He clarified that this temporary measure is in effect until the amendments to the 2021 Controlled Supplies Regulations are finalized, expected by October 31st, 2025. The ministry's decision was met with relief by many small business owners who rely on subsidized LPG. The temporary exemption provides crucial stability during a period of economic uncertainty. The ministry also plans to engage in discussions with stakeholders to ensure clear and effective enforcement of the future regulations. This proactive approach suggests a commitment to supporting small businesses in Malaysia.
