Sarawak's Rice Industry Receives Boost from Hybrid Rice Cultivation Sarawak, Malaysia – The cultivation of hybrid rice is poised to revolutionize Sarawak's rice industry, according to a recent report by Astro AWANI Borneo. The report highlights the potential for significantly increased yields, with hybrid rice varieties capable of producing up to 14 metric tons per hectare—a substantial improvement over traditional methods. Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Anak Utom, Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Sarawak, spoke about the initiative during a visit to a rice farm. "The use of hybrid rice, such as the GS30 variety from China, is one of the new initiatives being implemented through the pilot project in Tanjung Purun, Lundu." he stated. He further emphasized the crucial role of collaboration between public and private sectors in achieving these goals. The successful implementation of hybrid rice cultivation not only promises increased productivity but also contributes to long-term food security in Sarawak.
