Jetstar Asia to Cease Operations, Hundreds of Jobs at Risk
Jetstar Asia to Halt Operations: 500 Jobs Lost, Qantas Cites Rising Costs SINGAPORE – Jetstar Asia, the budget airline, will end operations on July 31, 2025, its parent company Qantas announced. This decision affects over 500 employees and 16 intra-Asia routes. Qantas cited "rising supplier costs, high airport charges, and intense competition" as reasons. A Qantas spokesperson stated, "We are committed to supporting our employees through this transition, providing comprehensive severance packages and job placement assistance." The closure also involves the transfer of 13 Airbus A320 aircraft to Qantas operations in Australia and New Zealand. The move is expected to save Qantas $500 million USD, which will be invested in fleet modernization. While this marks the end of Jetstar Asia, it also signifies Qantas' commitment to its broader operations and future growth.
