Sabah Women Entrepreneurs: Agents of Economic Change
Sabah Women Entrepreneurs Drive Economic Change: A Focus on Digital Empowerment Sabah, Malaysia – Women are playing a pivotal role in Sabah's economic transformation, particularly through the adoption of digital technologies. This is according to Datuk Seri Azizah Mohd Dun, Chairperson of the Institute of Development Studies Sabah (IDS), who spoke at a recent event celebrating women entrepreneurs. The event showcased a program designed to support women-led businesses, providing access to loans, mentorship, and marketing resources. "Women aren't just capable of conducting business; they can also create a significant social impact and become agents of economic change," stated Datuk Seri Azizah. The program aims to equip these women with the skills and resources necessary to succeed in the increasingly digital marketplace. One participant, Hanna Marsha Harjul, a businesswoman from Sandakan, shared her experience, stating, "This program has broadened our horizons, allowing us to expand our product reach beyond Sandakan. Networking is crucial for business success." Another participant, Ramla Zarifuddin, a keropok (cracker) maker, emphasized the value of the program's support, stating, "We've gained valuable experience and insights, helping us to improve our products and move forward." The program's success is evident in the over 8,000 women entrepreneurs registered this year. This initiative demonstrates the potential for inclusive economic growth when women are empowered and supported.
