
36 Foreign Nationals Arrested in Sungai Petani Raid
Police in Sungai Petani, Kedah, Malaysia, conducted a raid on three premises early Sunday morning, resulting in the arrest of 36 foreign nationals. The individuals, mostly from Myanmar, were suspected of involvement in illegal prostitution and entertainment activities. The Kuala Muda District Police Chief, ACP Hanif Ramlan, stated that the operation targeted establishments believed to be operating without licenses and engaging in illegal activities. "The raid, from 2:00 AM to 5:00 AM, focused on entertainment outlets suspected of illegal activities involving foreign nationals," said ACP Ramlan. Authorities seized musical equipment, alcohol, and cigarettes, suggesting additional offenses related to tax evasion. The 36 individuals, including 15 men and 20 women, lacked proper travel documents. One Indian woman is believed to be the owner of one of the premises. The case is under investigation under the Immigration Act, Customs Act, and Entertainment Enactment. This successful raid highlights the ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities and protect the community.
