West Philadelphia Shooting Leaves Man in Critical Condition A bizarre shooting incident in West Philadelphia has left a 65-year-old man fighting for his life. The incident occurred around 1:50 AM on June 4th, 2025, in the 400 block of North 61st Street. Police say the victim was asleep in his first-floor apartment when a bullet fired from the apartment above him struck him in the back. "Preliminary information is this was an accidental shooting where the bullet went through the floor of a second-floor apartment into the first-floor apartment," said Chief Insp. Scott Small of the Philadelphia Police Department. The bullet penetrated the floor of the second-floor apartment, striking the victim while he was in bed with his wife. The 52-year-old neighbor, who was handling the rifle, possibly cleaning it, is being interviewed by police. The 65-year-old victim underwent surgery and is listed in critical condition. The investigation continues, and whether or not charges will be filed remains to be seen. The incident highlights the importance of safe firearm handling practices.
