West Philadelphia Shooting Leaves Man in Critical Condition A bizarre shooting incident in West Philadelphia has left a 65-year-old man fighting for his life. The incident occurred around 1:50 AM on June 4th, 2025, in the 400 block of North 61st Street. Police say the victim was asleep in his first-floor apartment when a bullet fired from the apartment above him struck him in the back. "Preliminary information is this was an accidental shooting where the bullet went through the floor of a second-floor apartment into the first-floor apartment," said Chief Insp. Scott Small of the Philadelphia Police Department. The bullet penetrated the floor of the second-floor apartment, striking the victim while he was in bed with his wife. The 52-year-old neighbor, who was handling the rifle, possibly cleaning it, is being interviewed by police. The 65-year-old victim underwent surgery and is listed in critical condition.
